Tonight is another political debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Paul Ryan. It promises to be very entertaining but I am always struck by the words and phrases used. These folks are supposed to be the brightest of the bunch but they are really very predictable.
I wonder how many times we will hear the term “the bottom line is” . Boy that phrase is over used. With the politicians there is never a bottom line. How about “the fact is” ? That would be good if they followed with an actual fact. I really love it when they quote studies. They never state the source of the study or if they do, they neglect to tell us who commissioned it. Studies by left-wing organizations slant to the left and studies by right-wing organizations slant to the right. Studies are easy to create that give you the conclusion you seek.
Then there is the same exact statements, almost word for word, given by every member of the party. Aren’t they smart enough to at least put the message in their own words. The examples of their estimate of our lack of “smarts” is really insulting.
I hope tonight they give us a little credit for seeing through the demeaning attitude and start getting down to the issues. And Yes, a large dose of honesty would help. I am not counting on it.
